Die Veröffentlichung der Liste von Bewerbern für neue gTLDs verzögert sich weiter. Mitte April wurde bekannt, dass das TAS (TLD Application System) aufgrund technischer Probleme geschlossen wurde. Im TAS müssen die Bewerber Ihre Bewerbungsunterlagen hochladen. Dieses System ist nun seit Mitte April geschlossen. ICANN hatte bekanntgegeben, dass es einigen TAS-Usern möglich war, die Dateinamen anderer Bewerber zu sehen (was Rückschlüsse auf andere, möglicherweise konkurrierende Bewerbungen zulasse). Das System soll nach Beseitigung der Fehler erneut für 5 Tage geöffnet werden, damit Bewerber Ihre Unterlagen komplettieren können. Damit verzögert sich auch die Veröffentlichung der Bewerberliste. Zum Schluss waren 1.268 TAS User registriert, von denen sich jeder für bis zu 50 TLDs bewerben kann.
ICANN CEO Rod Beckstrom sagte dazu Anfang dieser Woche:
I’d like to see us obviously get the technical issues resolved, notify applicants, reopen the window and publish the strings before I pass the baton in Prague. That’s not a commitment at this point in time, it’s an indication as CEO that it’s absolutely my intention to push for a timely resolution of this issue… If we can get things done sooner, then the sooner the better.

In the context of nine-year program, a delay of between here and Prague of a few months is undesirable, it’s not what we want to have happen, but the quality of this program is more important to everyone involved than the specific date and time. We’re all focused on quality here and not just doing things in a hurry. This program is too important.
Das nächste Statement durch ICANN wird vor dem 8. Mai erwartet. Eventuell verzögert sich die Veröffentlichung sogar bis zum nächsten ICANN meeting in Prag Ende Juni.
